Up to $4,000 in PSE rebates
The standard PSE space-heating rebate is $1,500. Income-qualified households may receive $2,400 through Efficiency Boost instead of the $1,500 — these amounts do not stack. The $4,000 figure is available only through PSE’s electrification rebate for moderate-income customers converting from gas heating to an all-electric heat pump.

The Seattle Clean Heat Program pays a $2,000 instant rebate to eligible households replacing an oil heating system with an electric heat pump. Income‑qualified households may receive a bonus of up to $4,000. Income limits apply, and we confirm the exact amount your home qualifies for before any work begins.

Which rebate you get comes down to three things
Most rebate pages lead with the biggest number and leave you to discover later that you do not qualify for it. The amount your home can actually claim depends on your electric utility, what you are heating with today, and your household income. Get any one of those wrong and the figure changes completely.

This covers the Eastside. Three separate programs exist and they do not stack the way the advertised numbers imply.

If Seattle City Light is your electric utility
Seattle works differently, and there is a second path that the headline oil conversion rebate hides.
Converting from oil

| The deadline | The bonus is available for installations completed by 30 May 2027. Since a conversion involves scheduling, permitting and inspection, that is a nearer deadline than it sounds if you are still deciding. |
| How it is claimed | Through a participating contractor rather than by applying to the City yourself. You complete a Homeowner Participation Form and give it to your contractor, and the discount comes off the job rather than arriving later as a check. |
Not on oil? You are not shut out
The oil requirement sends a lot of Seattle homeowners away thinking there is nothing for them, which is not the case. Seattle City Light runs separate instant contractor discounts on qualifying air source heat pumps, in the region of $300 to $600 depending on the efficiency rating, for units under 5.4 tons meeting the required SEER2 and HSPF2 thresholds. There is also a $750 rebate on an ENERGY STAR heat pump water heater at the qualifying tiers.
These are smaller than the oil conversion figure, but they are real, they apply to far more houses, and they come off the job through the contractor. Do it yourself installations are not eligible, and the equipment has to be bought through a participating distributor.
What disqualifies people most often
You heat with gas and expected the $1,500. The standard PSE conversion rebate requires existing electric resistance heat. With a gas furnace your only PSE route is the moderate income electrification rebate.
Your installer is not a PSE participant. PSE pays through Recommended Energy Professionals and Trade Allies. The rebate does not follow the equipment, it follows the installer.
The equipment misses the efficiency threshold. Both utilities set minimum ratings, and a budget unit that clears code can still sit below the rebate line.
You are in Seattle, on oil, and the system is not Mitsubishi Electric. The Clean Heat rebate specifies the manufacturer.
You installed it yourself. Neither utility pays on a DIY installation.

Rebate questions we get asked
Can I claim the PSE rebate and the federal tax credit?
They are separate things, a utility rebate and a tax credit, and they are generally claimed separately. What does not stack is the $1,500 and the $2,400 within PSE, since the Efficiency Boost replaces the standard rebate rather than adding to it. We will tell you which combination applies to your job before you commit.
Do you handle the paperwork?
Yes. On the PSE side our Recommended Energy Professional status is what makes the job eligible in the first place. On the Seattle side you complete a Homeowner Participation Form and we take it from there.
Is the rebate money up front or later?
Seattle's Clean Heat rebate and City Light's heat pump discounts come off the job as instant reductions. PSE programs vary by rebate, so we will tell you which way yours works when we quote.
My income is above the limit, or I think it is. Worth checking?
Usually yes. Moderate income thresholds run higher than most people assume and they scale with household size. It costs nothing to check before you rule yourself out.
Will rebates still be here next year?
These programs change, and some have hard end dates. Seattle's bonus rebate is tied to installations completed by 30 May 2027. If a rebate is a meaningful part of your decision, it is worth treating the timeline as part of the decision too.
